Active blogging

As you can see, my blog is becoming active again. This is in part due my new blackberry pearl, and the fact that I can send pictures directly to my blog via mms.
Today was a crappy day raining all day had to take a make up exam, and to top it all off my allergies were acting crazy all day. They started when my professor asked us to catalog all the dells and HPs because a dumpster was coming to get them. Finally a clean lab, however my allergies thought differently and I’ve been sniffling, sneezing, and blowing my nose since 8am, not even claritin helped.
Took my make up exam for BCIS 120, and it was a lot easier than I thought it would be. Hopefully I’ll get the results by Thursday.
Thoughts on the BlackBerry Pearl… Its a really cool device. It can do everything I need, and it does it quite fast. Compared to the T-Mobile MDA, I would say its quite fast. Internet Connectivity is fairly quick with EDGE. All the pda functions work pretty nicely. Not sure what else to say. I heard some kid in a T-Mobile store saying that the phone wa “wack”, because is friend got one and returned it to get an MDA. I just and to laugh to myself. They’re both pda phones and have similar functions, except that the MDA has better multimedia and game functions. Well I have an iPod for that, and if I wanted to play games I’ll get a Nintendo DS (which I might).
Looks like this is becoming quite lengthy, so I’ll end this for now.

Laterz!

Let’s go Mets!!!

Car accident

NYC plane crash

At about 3pm today a small plane has crashed into a high rise building on 72nd street on the upper east side. So far officials are saying that it was not a terrorist attack because of the type buiding in question and that there were no threats.

4 years to the day…..

http://www.ftci.com/memorial_book/lim_arnold.htm

Its been 4 years to the day… the pain and sense of loss is as fresh as the day it happened. September 11, 2001 the US witnessed one of the most heinous attacks on American soil since Pearl Harbor. The only difference is that this was attack on it’s citizens and not a military outfit.

I was just about to leave for work that day, already running late, leaving my house, about turn off the TV and then the North Tower was hit. I was shocked, glued to the TV debating whether or not to go to work. I called up Linette letting her know what was going on. I think time was going by really quick that day, because the next thing I know was that the South Tower was hit, running around looking for Arnold’s business card to try to give him a call to see if he was ok, but the lines were already dead. Still watching CNN and on the phone with Linette, the South Tower collapses and a sound that I will never forget comes from the phone. It was a combination cry, shriek, scream and yell, filled with dread that came from Linette, it’s hard to replicate how it sounds, but if I ever heard it again, I can tell you what it is. I just hope I never hear that again.

Watching the 4 year anniversary brings back a lot of memories of that day and the days that follow. Talking to my dad on the phone saying that I’ll pick him up from work and just trying to get from my house to the Grand Central Park and 164th st took almost an hour, which is normally less than 2 minutes to get to. Finally getting to the cross section I can clearly see the plume of smoke coming from Lower Manhattan. Decided to go home and watched the news the rest of the night.

The days following were spent in NYC helping Linette and her family going from hospital to hospital putting hope missing signs for Arnold as well as checking to see if he was checked in to any hospital. We were interviewed quite a few times by different news agencies with Linette being the spokesperson for us.

I remember first walking out of the 14th St/ Union St subway station, walking along 14th St towards 1st Ave and seeing NYS State Troopers patrolling the streets, one of the few sights that I will never forget, along with the sights of seeing the myriad of missing posters plastered at all the area hospitals. I hope this never happens again.

Arnold…. We miss you very much, I know that Linette does, although she’s your cousin, she thinks of you as a brother she never had.

We will see you again someday…

A little excerpt from The Return of the King. I thought it was fitting, giving us hope for those that has passed on.

Pippin: I didn’t think it would end this way.
Gandalf: End? No, the journey doesn’t end here. Death is just another path… One that we all must take.
Gandalf: The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all change to silver glass…
Gandalf: …And then you see it.
Pippin: What? Gandalf?… See what?
Gandalf: White shores… and beyond. The far green country under a swift sunrise.
Pippin: Well, that isn’t so bad.
Gandalf: [Softly:] No… No it isn’t.

End of summer… First day of class

Summer is done and over with for me, and it couldn’t come any sooner.  This summer was pretty much uneventful. Two summer classes and nothing out of the ordinary happened, except for the short time Linette was here, and of course the US Open…. The day Andy lost his mojo… in my opinion, I think he’s overrated.

Now that Linette is back on St Kitts starting her 3rd semester there, I’m up starting on my senior year.  This semester I’ll be taking PHI 014 (Ethics), FIN 101 (Intro to Finance), HIST 105 (Ancient Egypt, Greeks and Hebrews), LEGL 020 (Intro to Legal Systems), and AH 003 (Gods and Kings).

Today was fairly uneventful, ethics was cancelled because of the freshman/ incoming transfer convocation, which left me with 1 1/2 hours of nothing to do, so I got some of my books during that break as well as the new parking stickers.  Seems like there’s a distinction between commuter and resident students now.  Only new thing is that the commuter students get their own parking lot, which is still fairly small.  I think they should expand the commuter lots into the area behind Starr Hall, and have the residents park on the north side of campus, since their dorms are there anyway.

Finance class was a bit interesting, Prof. Papaioannou… try saying that, seems like a fair professor, but I guess only time can tell.  The class is full, but I suspect that the class will shrink as the semester goes forward.

Final class of the day, was an eye opener. Prof John Walsh, for Hist 105.  This guys doesn’t look like you’re typical University professor. He walked in with a Hawaiian shirt on, ipod earbuds hanging inside his shirt and his bag.  I was like, this guy can’t be our professor.  In any case, the guy is pretty much straight forward with rules.  When class is in session, he talks, and when he stops.. He’s done.  If a student’s cell phone rings, he answers it.  At least he doesn’t kick them out of class, and marks them absent like my Calc1 professor did at Nassau.  Other things, no exams, and only 2 papers, but I think these papers need to be written really well to get a good grade.  Professor Walsh says he’s a liberal and believes that government should stop passing laws that interferes with people’s lives and that young people shouldn’t be allowed to vote.  He feels that young people doesn’t know enough of the facts and that it’s unfair that young people have the same voting power as he does.  So my guess is that he feels he’s knows enough facts to make informed decisions.  An opinion that I can relate to.  Too many decisions out there are made on half-ass information, which leads to half-ass solutions, which can lead to disaster.

I’ll try to be more up2date with this blog now that school is in session.  I have something I can bitch about now 😛

Graduation Day

Finally had my graduation ceremony at Nassau Community College.  It was quite an experience.  It was something I had never experienced before walking out into the coliseum as they called out my name and hearing the cheers.  The cheers was quite surprising because at first I thought it was my family, Linette and my cousin Mariel, later I found out it was cousins who yelled out, who happened to be there when for my other cousin who was graduating as well.  Nonetheless, it was a great feeling.
The ceremony was about 2 hours long with Sen. Charles Schumer giving a congratulatory speech.  According to him “go for it” is quite a fitting quote.  I’m at the stage in my life where I just need to do what I need to get done so I can finally move forward with my plans.  I need to stop contemplating about it and just start doing it.  So for me, his speech seemed to have a more personal effect.

Before graduation day was finals week at Hofstra.  Exams weren’t too hard, I found them to be quite the same as midterms, except for ACC 102 and ENG 042.  ACC 102 was cumulative exam which made it twice as hard, and ENG 052 was an all essay exam.

First semester at Hofstra wasn’t too bad.  However it took me a whole semester to become really comfortable there, and it wasn’t until finals time that I got to know more people in my classes and learned more about the resources available to me at the university.  Well, all I can say is that I’m looking forward to summer classes as well as the fall semester, so I can finish up and get moving.

Before I end this I want to thank my parents for giving me the opportunity to attend Nassau Community College and eventually Hofstra.  They made big sacrifices for me to go back to school at a time where I should’ve been done already.  I love them dearly for that.

I want to thank my girlfriend Linette who was has been there every step of the way to help me get through my years at Nassau when I wanted to give up, especially in my disastrous first semester back in college.  I love you very much dear!

I also want to thank my Uncle and my cousin Mariel for attending the ceremony, it meant a lot knowing that you were there to see me walk.

Another thank you goes out to my friends who came over afterwards, you guys also helped me out during years starting back in school again.  And being there after the ceremony was just comforting in helping me realize that the Associate in Applied Science degree is just another milestone on the way to the BBA and that AAS is a worthwhile accomplishment as well.

Thank you to all of you for celebrating with me.  Next stop, Shuart Stadium, BBA in BCIS.  Aiming for 2007.

in st kitts

Well, as the subject says, I’m in St Kitts now.  Landed at 8:20pm.  Pretty uneventful journey down here.  The only thing that happend was that the ticket agent at JFK re-booked for another flight.  Instead of going from JFK to Miami and from Miami to San Juan, she booked on a direct flight to San Juan, which was a good thing.  Either way my layover in San Juan was 5 hours.

Today is a nice day.  Feels about 80 degrees with rising humidity and its only 7:43am.  Probably get a lot hotter and more humid today.  Something that I’m not used to yet because of the cold winter weather up in NY.  Right now in the library waiting for Linette to get out of class which will be about 2pm.  Gives me time to do some school and some catching up.

BTW, the coffee from the school snack stand….. SUCKS.

😛

Boring day today

Not much went on today.  Didn’t even go to Good Friday service despite what I said earlier.  Had to change my wheel again because it turns out that there seems to be a slow leak.  Came out today and saw that my tire was almost flat.  Other than that, nothing much for the rest of the day.  Just watching Law and Order: Trial By Jury.

I’ll be packing most of the day tomorrow.  The only things I have ready are my school books, and about 34hrs of music on my Hi-MD disc.  I have should have enough things to keep me busy for the flight down.

Good Friday

Today is Good Friday, and it happens to be my Mom’s birthday as well.  Didn’t do too much today.  It was pretty low key.  We had a cake, and had take out for lunch.  We’ll be going to Church around 3pm today for the Good Friday service.  Other than I’m still making a list of what I need to bring down with me to St. Kitts.

counting down the hours….

Well, Spring Break started officially for me at 2:10 on Tuesday.  Unofficially, however, it started earlier than I liked.  Tuesday started out as any normal school day.  But when I went to move my car, I found a big old bolt stuck in my rear right tire.  So I decided to put my old rims and tires in the back and the newer rims in the front.  When it came time to remove the wheels, I couldn’t find my wheel lock key.  I took everything out of my trunk to look for that key, but after an hour of searching, I came to the realization that I had misplaced or lost the key.  Called up Jesse, to bring my car to his place to have it broken off.  Got there around 1pm.  His dad went to get his tools.  While he was doing that, I decided to look in my trunk one more time.  Hoping that it would magically appear.  And guess what?  There it was.  I was both relieved and pissed.  1 1/2 hours later, I had my old rims in the front, and the new ones in the back.  I’m guessing that when I was rushing to get my wheels switched out in the morning, I was rushing, and I just didn’t see it.  Either way I missed my classes that day.

Spring arrived on Sunday, but this weather seems to say otherwise.  Yesterday and last evening it rained and snowed, and it left about 1/2″ of a coating on the ground when I woke up.  Supposed to be cloudy and raining until Sunday.

2 more days….
