Not so much of an interesting day today. Mostly rain, being the geek that I am, I spent most of the day configuring GnuPG, the open source implementation of PGP.
Why am I using GnuPG?
Well, with all these e-mail virus going around and such, I figured what better way to let my e-mail recpients know its me than by using a digital signature. I don’t feel like going into much detail about PGP, so I’ll just leave that to napiza.org v2. HAHA yes, there is a version 2 in works. Aren’t you all excited?
After creating new keys, installed FireFox, a Mozilla based web browser which is really a good browser, and Thunderbird, which is a Mozilla based Mail and Newsgroup reader. Another decent product.
What prompted all this? 1. Boredom, 2. Been using Outlook Express as my defaul news reader, I use a Newsbin Pro to download.
Anyway, Outlook and Outlook Express are highly vulnerable to viruses and security breeches. So that’s why I switched.
So far I’m quite content with FireFox and Thunderbird, each taking up 29MB and 24MB of memory, respectively. Funny how AIM takes up 31MB of mem and I’m not chatting with anyone.
Well time to get some sleep.
