Month: April 2004

whew.. ok… missed my first class today, actually didn’t feel like going 😛 so i just stayed home being a bum. Thinking that my next class was at 2:30, i just basically bummed around the house. Then my pocket pc and outlook alarm rang saying that i had class at 2pm. Oh shit! i raced towards school cuz i had test today. Got to class 15 minutes late, the test was on Excel spreadsheets, fairly easy. Well too easy, finished in 10 min. Easiest 100 in a long time. Anyway, took a nice drive home.

There’s a going away dinner being thrown by Linette’s clinic later tonight. Hope its a good restaurant, I love free dinners.

Well just finsihed an install of Fedora, install went fine, just a few things not working the way I want it to. I guess I just need more time to play with the configuration. It feels like its been a long time since I tried out linux setup, obviously I’m a bit rusty. I guess this was something that I shouldn’t do when I’m pressed for time. Oh well.

*yawn* Not much going on today. Forgot that I have 2 exams this week, both for the same class. One is on Excel spreadsheets, which is an easy “A” which is tomorrow. On Thursday is the multiple choice exam on which is fairly easy as well as long as i read the two chapters.

Been looking at the Fedora Core 2 Test 2 release and finally dowloaded the ISO’s. About to burn them and do a dual boot on my laptop. I’ll let you know how that goes.

Just got home from another going away party for Linette. This time it was a family going away party at her sister’s house. Same party as usual, except for the toast wishing Linette good luck and that she’ll be missed.

First time playing Texas Hold’em, and lost $6. It’s either that I really suck or i just kept getting bad hands dealt to me. Maybe a combination of both.

Nothing of real interest happend, except for the family not seeing each other in some time.

However Brownie had a great time meeting new people and playing with Kai all day.

Oh yah, pictures from this event are also posted in the gallery.

I just want to thank everyone that came out to Linette’s going away party at Dragonfly. Had a great time their, I know Linette did. Anyways, I posted pictures in my gallery section of my site so you can check them out there.

Anyways, Friday came and it was my cousin U.S. Coast Guard boot camp graduation down at Cape May. We left at 5am, only to get stuck for an hour at Bayonne because of a really bad accident involving a truck, SUV and a car. Pretty bad, there was blood all over driver’s side of the SUV. Finally made it down to Cape May at about 9:30, just in time for the promotional videos they made us watch. Ceremony was pretty cool, however my cousin is stil the same, loud and a bit annoying, but not as much as before. Oh yeah, one thing did change she seems to be a bit more confident about herself, doesn’t have that shy attitude anymore. After the graduation we headed over to Atlantic City for some food and a little bit gambling.

YAY!!! Finally got my replacement transmitter from Clifford. Cool beans…. They gave me the newer remote with a carbon fiber look. Had a little problem having the system recognize the new remote. Instructions on the back didn’t really work. However, after a little detective work I was able to get it working. At least now when I go out or something I don’t have to worry about if I turned on the alarm or not.

More later.

Boring day today. Too windy to go out.

Saw Lost in Translation. Movie was ok, I was lost most of the time trying figure out the plot. Maybe I’ll sleep on it…

Made a mistake by accident and revoked my public key. Since you can’t really unrevoke a public key I had to create new keys and send them to the pgp keyserver. Well this time around used RSA instead of DSA.

Not much went on today, had some Pluck U. at Linette’s place and then dropped her off at a CPA’s place to get her taxes done.

Installed a new HD in Linette’s laptop and now re-installing all the software plus Windows Updates…. uggg.

That’s it for today.

Not so much of an interesting day today. Mostly rain, being the geek that I am, I spent most of the day configuring GnuPG, the open source implementation of PGP.

Why am I using GnuPG?

Well, with all these e-mail virus going around and such, I figured what better way to let my e-mail recpients know its me than by using a digital signature. I don’t feel like going into much detail about PGP, so I’ll just leave that to napiza.org v2. HAHA yes, there is a version 2 in works. Aren’t you all excited?

After creating new keys, installed FireFox, a Mozilla based web browser which is really a good browser, and Thunderbird, which is a Mozilla based Mail and Newsgroup reader. Another decent product.

What prompted all this? 1. Boredom, 2. Been using Outlook Express as my defaul news reader, I use a Newsbin Pro to download.

Anyway, Outlook and Outlook Express are highly vulnerable to viruses and security breeches. So that’s why I switched.

So far I’m quite content with FireFox and Thunderbird, each taking up 29MB and 24MB of memory, respectively. Funny how AIM takes up 31MB of mem and I’m not chatting with anyone.

Well time to get some sleep.
